Introducing the Flair 58 Plus 2. Featuring three key upgrades: including an integrated preheat control system, simplified wiring, and a smaller power supply, the Flair 58 Plus 2 is Flair’s new flagship lever espresso maker.

Description:

Brew incredible espresso, with full control over all brew variables, in a footprint that’s small enough for any countertop, but satisfies any espresso craving.

The Flair 58 Plus 2 is the new flagship from Flair Espresso, a manual lever espresso maker that provides full control over all brewing variables in a small countertop footprint.

The Flair 58 Plus 2 includes everything from the Flair 58 Family, like an integrated pressure gauge, 58mm portafilter, and preheat controller, while adding three key upgrades:

  • Upgrade 1: The preheat system controller has been embedded into the base of the Flair 58 Plus 2 for seamless control
  • Upgrade 2: The power supply has been significantly reduced in size
  • Upgrade 3: The wiring on the Flair 58 Plus 2 has been streamlined for ease of use

The preheat system on the Flair 58 Plus 2 still includes three different levels: low, medium and high, which roughly correlate to brewing temperatures needed for dark, medium and light roasts respectively.  And, if you’re feeling the travel itch, the 58 Plus 2 easily unplugs to brew espresso without any wires.

Finally, with the featured valve plunger the workflow on the Flair 58 Plus 2 is unrivaled, ensuring that if you’re brewing for yourself or your friends and family, one shot or multiple, the Flair 58 Plus 2 will delight with the ease and simplicity of creating delicious espresso.

What's Required for Flair 58 Plus 2 Brewing?

The Flair 58 Plus 2 is a barista level espresso machine, capable of creating and re-creating your favorite recipes from any coffee you own. As such, the 58 Plus 2 requires a full brewing kit of accessories to ensure top performance.

At a minimum, brewers with the Flair 58 Plus 2 must have:

  • Espresso capable, high-quality burr grinder – Brewing espresso on the Flair 58 Plus 2 is a work of art and science. It’s impossible to dial-in your espresso extraction with inconsistent grounds. As such, it’s required to have an espresso-capable burr grinder to use with your 58 Plus 2. Expect to spend at least $150 and look for a unit with stepless grind sizing.
  • High-quality kettle – While a temperature controlled kettle is not required for brewing with the Flair 58 Plus 2, it will definitely make your workflow and experience more enjoyable. At a minimum, target a kettle with a thermometer so you can be precise with your thermal inputs.
  • Digital Scale – Any scale will do, but for repeatable results, both your inputs and outputs should be measured. This includes for dosing your beans, measuring the output in your cup as well as flow rate.

I love the simplicity and works great!

I bought my Flair 58+ 2 from Image Coffee and at first had a problem with them sending me the wrong model. I was initially a little disturbed by the odd circumstances causing the mix-up, but Image Coffee was very professional from beginning to finish to get things sorted out and they promptly sent me the correct model. I would shop here again.

As for the Flair 58+ 2, I'm so glad I came across this fully manual espresso machine (although there is an electronic pre-heating element which is not mission critical). I learned that the automated espresso machines, no matter how expensive, require routine de-scaling and maintenance cycles, and are prone to both mechanical and electrical component failure. So, the idea of having a machine that enables you to produce your own ideal espresso by manually (but easily) controlling the pressure/flow rate was very appealing to me, for home use. It really isn't much more work than "fully automated", other than having to spend the 30 seconds or so pulling the lever as opposed to pushing a button -- no problem if you are making coffee for yourself and maybe a few others. The machine is very sturdy with metal parts, and nice looking, and does not take up much space. I did have to e-mail support at first because I could not obtain pressure when pulling the lever, and thought maybe I had done something wrong in assembling the machine out of the box (which was really easy). It turns out, my coffee was not ground finely enough. After putting my bean grinder in the finest setting possible, I was able to get 9+ bars of pressure. Flair's support by e-mail was responsive, and they gave me good and prompt answers to resolve this issue.
